This project consisted of the design and construction of 5 synthetic cricket nets for Anglican Church Grammar School, a well renowned school with a long history of producing high quality cricketers.
The students were having issues with the existing pitches where bowlers struggled to spin, turn or manipulate the ball due to the pitches being identical, worn down and too consistent.
Utilising excellent knowledge of cricket and surface construction, a training system was designed by Grassports QLD to increase the skill set of both batters and bowlers by having each pitch perform differently with a selection of APT products with differing performance characteristics.
Five different surfaces and combinations were designed and installed by Grassports QLD including:
- Combination Manor and Rubber Pitch (EPDM rubber)
- Centurian Trainer with side pitch maps
- Centurian Trainer with Pitch Maps
- Manor with Side Pitch Maps
- Acrylic Wicket (Laykold Masters 5 and fibreglass)
The reinforced Masters 5 pitch was custom designed to create a faster surface than normal by modification of the topcoat system. This pitch used the principles of Masters 5 but with a strengthened surface using fibreglass, to increase the pace of the ball and the firmness of the bounce.
An outstanding use of innovation by Grassports QLD to create a bespoke training facility has changed the dynamic of the twice-daily training sessions at Churchie Grammar.
