Ash Barty has claimed her victory against Madison Keys 6-4, 7-5 and by doing so has made it through to the Roland Garros Semi Finals!
On Wednesday due to a wash out the match was rescheduled and Barty was ready to bring her best performance on the clay courts.
“That’s probably close to my best match that I have played…..on the clay,” Barty announced.
Barty was in control for the entire match with her amazing slice backhands, quick reflexes and strong serves putting Keys on the back foot with 26 unforced errors.
“It was a really clean match. I felt like I was in control. I got the balls I wanted and I was able to put the balls in difficult positions for Maddie.”
“I felt like I had a better mix of slice and topspin, (compared) to my other matches,” Barty said.
In previous years she hasn’t made it past the second round of Roland Garros.
However, this year Barty has been in full form making the quarter finals at the Australian Open, becoming the first Australian woman to rise to the top 10 world rankings since 2013 after her A-Class performance at the Miami Open and and now reaching the semi finals at Roland Garros.
If she wins again on Saturday, Barty will be the highest ranked Australian women’s tennis player since Wendy Turnbull who made it to third in 1985.
On Saturday Ash Barty will be up against 17 year old USA tennis player, Amanda Anisimova who in the quarter finals knocked out world number 3, Simona Halep 6-2, 6-4.
