In Naracoorte, a community basketball court has become much more than a place to play.
Delivered by Communities in Colour, this award-winning Laykold art court celebrates the South-Eastern Red-Tail Black Cockatoo, an endangered species native to the region. The large-scale artwork transforms the sporting space into a powerful visual statement, blending recreation, education and environmental awareness within a single community asset.
The project was developed in collaboration with local students and community members, creating opportunities for hands-on participation while strengthening local ownership of the space. Beyond its artistic impact, the court continues to function as a high-performance sporting surface thanks to the installation of Laykold Advantage, a durable acrylic court system trusted for its slip resistance, colour stability and long-term performance.
The result is a unique community sports court that demonstrates how sporting infrastructure can become a platform for storytelling, creativity and community connection while still delivering elite-level playability.
