is a former UK tennis player and coach who transitioned into padel in 2013, before founding the UK’s largest venue, Padel Nation. He went on to open Australia’s first padel club, Padel Sydney, in 2015. A former Australian #1 and world top-50 ranked padel player, Matty now coaches the national Men’s and Women’s teams and has represented both Great Britain and Australia at multiple World Championships. Today, he plays a leading role in developing padel across Asia Pacific—supporting new venues, training coaches, and creating the official Australian coaching course.
Matty Thomas began his career as a tennis player in the UK who trained and competed around Europe. In 2005 he moved into coaching and coached 9 British champions and then relocated to Spain to work with players overseas.
In 2013 Matty opened the largest padel tennis venue in UK called Padel Nation, before moving to Australia and opening Padel Sydney in 2015. Matty is the former #1 ranked padel player in Australia and reached 46 in the FIP world rankings. He is the current coach of the Men’s and Ladies Australian national team.
Matty is now helping grow and develop padel in Asia Pacific and has helped with the set up and running of Padel Sydney, Padel Gold Coast and One Padel Melbourne. He runs the Australian Coaching qualifications and has trained coaches in Sydney, Gold Coast and Melbourne.
