Deciding to install a new synthetic rugby facility or upgrade an existing surface is a big decision and an investment commitment. Ensuring that you have the right skilled team that will be with you every step of the way is an important decision.
There are a few things to consider when making your selection for example installer experience, ask for references of previously installed rugby fields, if possible discuss the experience with the staff, ask if the field had passed World Rugby certification, these are just a couple of things that would help ensure your investment will stand the test of time. Contact our customer service team to discuss your facility’s requirements and we will recommend an accredited contractor to suit your needs.

It is important to maximise the opportunity to achieve a fields life expectancy through effective maintenance. Although it is generally recognised that synthetic turf has a major advantage over natural turf in respect to the reduced level of maintenance and need for annual field rejuvenation, there is still a need for programmed routine and special maintenance activities.
An independent authority, Smart Connection Consultancy in conjunction with Alastair Cox Associates have put together “The smart guide to Maintaining Synthetic Sports Turf (Long Pile)” provides you with a well informed overview of what and why a good maintenance program is needed.
Each rugby field is different, it has its own unique levels of use, maintenance programs vary and local conditions contribute to the lifetime of a surface. As a guide our Ligaturf products can last up to 10 years with heavy use (approx. 80 hours per week). Your field may continue to perform but you should expect a drop off in quality. There are warning signs of when it is time for you to start considering a resurface, this includes the seams opening up, drainage not working and fibres coming out or being worn down completely, this would be noticeable in the heavy use areas. If you have a regular maintenance program in place and the pitch is tested or inspected annually, it should be possible to forecast when the fields performance starts to decline. If you are unsure or if your field needs a health check please contact us or an APT Accredited Installer to assess your field.

World Rugby Certification - Getting your Rugby Field certified
World Rugby has produced the World Rugby Artificial Rugby Turf Performance Specification to set a minimum standard for artificial playing surfaces which may be used in Rugby. The World Rugby Artificial Rugby Turf Performance Specification stipulates the testing and approval procedures which Manufacturers and other entities involved in the installation of artificial playing surfaces must comply with in order for their products to be approved for use in Rugby. The World Rugby Artificial Rugby Turf Performance Specification will be amended over time as technology and research evolves in the area of artificial playing surfaces.>>
